Russ Hughes is the father of Andrew and Aaron Hughes and is the 2005 KSL Champion.

2005

Russ joined the league with Blake Clayton to form the new head to head system of KSL. Russ started off the 2005 season by dropping 3 in a row but came back to win 4 straight. He had a similar story throughout the season. Russ eventually finished 7-7 and he earned a high spot in the playoffs. Russ took out Ryan McCarty in the first round and beat his only straight born son Aaron in the second. Finally, in the third round, Russ defeated Blake Clayton to claim the Matchett Cup.

Legacy

Russ was mostly managed by the commissioner Andrew Hughes. Russ did draft the team and set the initial lineup but Andrew managed it after Russ failed to keep up with the bye weeks. This caused some issues as to who the winner should be. Blake thought he should've won the championship since he made it to the finals. Andrew also had a claim to the Cup since he was the team manager half way through the season. However, it was decided that even though Russ was an absentee owner, the title belonged to him.

Only one other team has been managed by the commissioner and that was Ryan Skender's team in 2009. Had Ryan won the championship, it would've been his because of the precedents set with Russ. However, because of KSL's popularity, there shouldn't be a problem going forward.
