The 2013 season saw many rule changes go in to effect from the off season. Most notable was the limit on trades and in particular draft pick trades and lowering of Defensive Points. We also saw the first random drawing of the divisions. 2013 also saw the introduction of Erik VanHyfte as the newest member to the KSL family.

Week 1-5

For PBnJ many thought Doug would be the clear favorite going in but with a loss Week 1 to Dave Pate, we saw that even the toughest can fall in a bad game. PBnJ saw Doug get back on track and take over the division at 4-1. Andy was right behind him at 3-2 and Ty Boardman was able to over come a 1-2 start to finish 3-2. Meanwhile, Dave Pate fell to 1-4.

Over at LuLz we saw Kevin jump to an early 5-0 lead and the rest of his division fall to below 0.500. Dave Nanninga was at 2-3 and Aaron, Oberg were at the bottom at 1-4. It was a disappointing start for this division.

The 5BBB division had a similar situation where Joe was able to jump up to 5-0 and Brian was able to get off his 0-3 streak and win his next two games. Erik VanHyfte was able to win his first game but lose his next 4 in a row. Meanwhile, Ty Palmer who many thought would finish last in KSL, was able to start off 2-3.

This start was one of the craziest in recent memory. Having Doug lose his first matchup was a surprise as was Snider and Kevin going 5-0. We only had 5 teams at over 0.500 and 4 teams at 1-4.

Week 6-10

PBnJ became Doug's division during this stretch. He went 4-1 during this stretch and was able to finish 8-2 and clinch a playoff spot. Andy went on a slide and lost 3 in a row during that stretch but was able to get a win over Aaron which was his first during their career in KSL. Boardman was able to get some good wins and finish 3-2 for that stretch and finish 6-4 overall. Dave Pate has a good start and was 3-4 but fell to 3-7.

The Lulz division saw Nanninga make some head way by winning 3 out of 5 games whereas Kevin only won 2 out of 5. Aaron was also able to win 3 games and be put in a position to contend for the playoffs. Meanwhile Oberg had a rough start and he ended that stretch by losing 9 straight games and fall to 1-9.

Over at 5BBB we saw a roller-coaster of a ride. Joe had lost 4 straight games and finished 6-4. Brian was able to win 6 straight games dating back to week 4 and tie up Joe at 6-4. Erik was able to keep up and win 4 out of 5 and finish 5-5 and put himself in contention for the division. Ty Palmer was also in playoff contention by maintaining a couple wins and finish 4-6.

We saw some massive swings in 5BBB by having Snider losing 4 straight and Brian win 6 straight. Kevin and Doug were able to stay on top of their division but they started getting challenged towards the end.

Week 11-13

During the final stretch in KSL's run to the playoffs, we saw the teams placing second in their division challenge the divisional leaders.

PBnJ saw Doug and Ty Boardman battle in week 12 for the divisional title but Doug was able to overcome Ty's late year surge and take back control of his division and win it. Andy had continued his winning ways and secure the 4th seed in the playoffs by winning 5 straight matchups. Ty Boardman had a great 6-10 but he lost his last two matchups to fall to the 5th overall seed. Dave Pate made a valiant effort by winning his last 3 games and due to tiebreakers, he made the playoffs by being 1 point above Brian through 13 weeks.

Lulz saw Kevin continue his winning ways but losses to Ty and Andrew gave Aaron the opportunity to take back the division. Kevin was able to win his last two divisional games to become a 4 time divisional champion. Aaron had not lost 2 in a row since week 5 but his constant win and then lose schedule spelled problems for the former champion. In week 13 he took on Dave Nanninga and the winner of that matchup went on to the #7 seed whereas the loser went on to battle for a top pick the following year. Aaron was able to get a win and make his way back to the playoffs. Nanninga had a stream of bad luck that culminated with 3 straight loses to opponents below 0.500. This was the first time in 3 years that Dave would miss the playoffs. Meanwhile, Oberg had a rough patch, having lost 10 straight games. He finally got a win week 12 against Nanninga but his win knocked Dave out of the playoffs. Jon would go on to finish 2-11, tying the record for second worse record in the regular season.

5BBB had a close race between all 4 owners and at one point in time during the season, we had 3 different divisional leaders. Recently, Brian had taken over as the leader until his matchup in week 12 against Erik. Erik had won and with it, the division. Joe had a string of losses, having lost 5 of 6 matchups. However, he was able to narrowly escape elimination by getting a last second win over Brian during week 13. Brian's loss put him on the bubble to miss the playoffs for the 5th straight season. After stat corrections, he was informed he would miss the playoffs by being one point below defending champion Dave Pate who earned the 8th overall seed. Meanwhile, Palmer was able to put together a string of wins but eventually he lost 3 of his last 4 to miss the playoffs and a chance at a second title.

Playoffs

The start of the playoffs saw the top seeded Doug Hahn take on Dave Pate, the second seed Kevin Smith take on Aaron Hughes, third seeded Erik VanHyfte take on Joe Snider and finally Andrew Hughes taking on Ty Boardman. Doug was able to best Dave despite being winless against him in the regular season. Kevin was able to get his 3rd win over Aaron. Erik earned his third straight as did Ty over Andy.

In round two we saw Doug taking on Ty and Kevin taking on Erik. This was unique as we got to see the best in the PBnJ division go up against the best from the other two. Doug was able to beat Ty and Kevin was able to take down Erik

For the Championship matchup we had the top 2 teams in KSL going against each other. This has happened a few other times in KSL history and the 2nd seed has the better record overall. Kevin was able to get the win over Doug and finally capture his first KSL Championship in his 12 seasons.

Legacy

Having seen an uptick in the amount of RBs owned, because of their value, KSL halved the point per touch to make RB's more on par with WRs. We also saw points per competition drop significantly for QBs to try to bridge the gap between QB-RB-WR. Team Defenses also received a minor tweak to even them out more. Finally, we instituted a slight variation to draft pick trades. In addition to only receiving picks after the 5th round, you can only have 2 additional picks in rounds 6-10. After that, you can trade as many draft picks from rounds 11-24 you would like. This was done so no one team trades away too many good players in the hopes of gaming the system.
