2012

The 2011 Season saw some change for KSL. Travis and Blake had left the league but the other owners stayed. For the first time in KSL history we moved to a Three Division League. We set up a system where the top 3 divisional winners received the top 3 spots and then we had 5 wild card spots that were taken by the other owners. This caused divisional games to be super important in deciding who would get one of the top spots. This season was a close one down to the final game.

Week 1-5

Within the first 5 weeks of the 2011 KSL season, we saw Dave Nanninga and Kevin Smith battle it out for the the PBnJ division with a 4-1 record each. Meanwhile, Andy Hughes and Ty Boardman were sitting at the bottom with 1 win a piece. Kevin and Dave's rivalry culminated in week 5 when Kevin beat him for the top spot in that division.

Over at the Hula Division, Mike had an early lead with 4 wins but Brian was close behind with 3. Dave Pate had a slow start with only 2 wins and Ty Palmer was having an off year by managing to not win one game in the first 5 weeks.

The 5 Bucks Below the Belt Crew had a very close race for the leadership in that division. However, Joe Snider managed to get 5 straight wins to claim that title but Aaron wasn't far behind with 4 wins. Oberg and Doug were at the bottom with only 1 win a piece but that wasn't going to last long because these two were going to have a breakout year.

Week 6-10

Dave Nanninga had a few games not go his way but he managed to leave week 10 with the division in his hands. Kevin had a few games not go his way and so he was one game behind Dave. Boardman was able to get 2 very important divisional wins under his belt and another rivalry game to improve his record by 3. Meanwhile, Andy had a rough time getting wins and so he only improved his record by 2.

The Hula division had a very surprising turn of events when they saw Mike lose 4 in a row to drop the division to Dave Pate who won an amazing 6 straight from week 5-10. Brian had a rough stretch of games and was only able to win 1. However, Ty Palmer lost 8 straight and for week 9 he went up against an undefeated Joe Snider. This was 0-8 vs 8-0. Somehow Ty Palmer was able to end Joe's streak and get himself his first win of the year.

5BBB saw Joe maintain his lead but Aaron was close behind. Meanwhile, Oberg and Doug were able to get 3 more wins a piece to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Week 11-13

With the final games before the playoffs we saw everyone have a chance to make it in but Ty Palmer who had an 8 game losing streak. Heading into the final week we had Aaron taking on Joe for the division but Aaron was unable to overcome Joe and so with the final win over Aaron, Joe took the division and the top spot in the playoffs. we also had Dave Nanninga taking on Kevin for the top spot in their division but Dave was able to pull out a win this time. And in the other division we had Mike taking on Dave Pate for control of their division too. Dave was able to win and secure himself the #3 seed in the playoffs.

We had all the divisions up for grabs for week 12, 13 but we also had the bottom 3 playoff spots open too. For week 13 we had 3 spots open. Mike's loss made him vulnerable to drop out of the playoffs but he was still able to get a spot. Meanwhile, Oberg had a spot almost secured but he needed some teams to lose. The 8th seed in the playoffs was being fought over by Doug, Brian, Andy and Ty Boardman. A win by Doug and he was in. However, he took on Joe, the team with the best record and Doug lost. Next in line was Brian, taking on an unlucky 2-10 Ty Palmer team. Unfortunately, Brian was the unlucky one that day. Then we had Andy in the mix. A win by Andy and he would be in but he was taking on Ty Boardman who had a great finish to the season. Ty was able to beat Andy and become the 8th seed for the 2011 KSL Playoffs.

This may have been the most drama filled ending to a season in KSL history.

Playoffs

After making a valiant effort at making the playoffs, Ty Boardman still had an up hill battle. He took on the top seeded Joe Snider in the first round. Ty was able to upset Joe and move on to the second round. Dave Nanninga was the 2nd seed in the playoffs but he took on Mike Smith who put up the most fantasy points that week. Dave Pate was the 3rd seed and he was able to best Jon Oberg in the closest game of the week. For the 4th and 5th seeds we saw Aaron Hughes take on Kevin Smith. Aaron was the victor that day and moved on to the second round.

In the second round we saw Aaron defeat Mike as well as Ty defeat Dave. This marked the second year in a row that Ty made it to the championship game.

For the championship game Aaron took on Ty. This was both teams second time in the championship match. Aaron was able to win his second championship that day. This was the 2nd time in KSL history we had a multi-time champion

Legacy

The 2011 season was one of the best in KSL history. After the dust had settled, we asked the owners what they thought about it and the overwhelming response was positive. the 3 divisions of 4 teams was fun and it made the divisional games very important.

This was the first year we had the ability to trade away draft picks and the first year of reseeding in the playoffs. Both of these new changes proved to be successful and added some new depth to KSL and so they were made permanent the following year.
